BURERA DISTRICT MAYOR URGES YOUTH TO EMULATE THE COURAGE OF THE RPA SOLDIERS WHO LIBERATED RWANDA AND STOPPED THE 1994 GENOCIDE AGAINST THE TUTSI

The Mayor of Burera District, Mukamana Soline, has called on young people to emulate the courage, patriotism, and selflessness demonstrated by the former Rwandan Patriotic Army (RPA) soldiers who liberated Rwanda and brought an end to the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

She made the remarks during the 32nd Liberation Day celebrations held on 4 July 2026 in Kayenzi Cell, Kagogo Sector, where she addressed residents and other participants.

The celebrations were held under the theme "Liberation: A Step Towards Our Vision." The event was attended by the Deputy Police Commander in the Northern Province, CSP Prudence Ngendahimana; the Chairperson of the Burera District Council, Jean Baptiste Bizimungu; the Commander of the Reserve Force in Burera District, Lt. Col. Viateur Rudatinya; the Burera District Police Commander, SP Stanislas Nkurundungi; and other members of the District Extended Security Committee.

Addressing the gathering, the Mayor said:

"I especially call upon the youth to emulate the bravery, dedication, patriotism, and love for Rwanda and its people demonstrated by the former RPA soldiers. They made tremendous sacrifices during the four-year liberation struggle, with many losing their lives, others sustaining injuries, and some living with permanent disabilities."

She added:

"The spirit of selfless service to Rwanda and its people demonstrated by those soldiers, under the leadership of His Excellency President Paul Kagame, should serve as a lasting example for the youth of Burera District."

The Mayor also urged all residents of Burera District to safeguard the unity of Rwandans by promoting the Ndi Umunyarwanda programme as a unifying bond among all citizens. She called on them to prevent and combat genocide ideology, reject all forms of divisionism, and oppose any actions that could hinder the development of the community and the nation as a whole.
